Some new stock - Dia 1/224 Vans
Finally, after much struggle with severe ill-health:
A couple of images showing some vans primed and ready for the paintshop.
Which leads us to:
These two vans have their bodies painted in Lifecolour BR Brown, the underframes are a mish mash of blacks and dark browns.
More to come later.
Padgate Works functions once more...

Thank you gents.
Still on the mend but it is one thing at a time, one day at a time.
Lots more images and blethering to post over the next few days - easy does it now.

As a fellow wagon tragic, I can only echo the comments of others.
Glad you are on the mend and feeling better.
I look forward to many more wagon posts.
Regards,
Craig W

Good to see you back IAK.
Are these your own transfers again? If so (and if not as I know you do your own) what drawing package do you use? I have drawn up some in AutoCAD but those that can print them have a lot of difficulty reading this even when in pdf format and some of the shapes do odd things!

Some are homebred again once more Mark and well spotted.
I draw mine up on Corel Draw and they are then printed on our group ALPS printer.
I agree mind that file formats are important but I forget which I use now!
Probably due to my health

Good to see you back in the saddle again, Iain. I had missed your wagonry goings on but all is now revealed. Hope things continue to improve for you and look forward to seeing some more good stuff.
By the way, I've not come across Lifecolor BR brown before, might look it up in the near future.
All the best,
John.

Sláinte John.
I am still a bit shoogly at times but the modelling helps - when I can function well enough
Back to the bl@@dy vans [to quote my dear missus...]
Railtec decals are a revelation to use and look great as I trust these two above images show.
To the weathering!
Little is more with these two.
The rest of the build will follow; mind, using the Red Panda underframes has been superceded by Justin Newitts wonderful etched brass creations. These beasties are for use on The Beast, Justins goodies are for my own pleasure initially.
Back soon fellow wagon addicts

Re: Some new stock - Dia 1/224 Vans
The "Works" is rumbling along once more and the Dia 1/224 van batch delayed by my wibbly health are nearing completion, together with some Dia 1/208 & 1/213 ones as well...
Primed and pre shadeding completed.
The next step will be some serious underframe painting and then some bodywork, much fun in sunny Padgate? Well, I have all the lettering and weathering after that

In one of those short spells when the internet reaches Norfolk, I managed to catch up on this. A very nice bit of wibbling, Ian.
I've often wondered about batch building some of the more numerous wagon types but I've never been sure if I had the patience for it. Still, there's always scope for a bit of variety and you've obviously incorporated a fair bit of that, and that's just on the ones I can see!
As I said, very nice indeed and who knows, it might even inspire a bit of batch building in the wagonarium.
All the best,
John.

One is too kind John.
Batch building is a theraputic (?) way of life with Mostyn stock.

I think this will depend on what you want to achieve. IF your layout calls for a quantity of wagons of all the same type then there is no alternative. Not scratch or kit building, but I have just started on the conversion of 20 RTR vans and wagons for Longcarse West with a mix of VDA, VBA, VBB, VGA and OBA types but all the same jobs of removing the existing running gear, fitting etched brass W irons, new white metal bearing covers and lots of screw couplings. Once you get going, doing the same process on all the wagons tends to speed things up.

Re: Some new stock - Dia 1/224 Vans
Where there is glue assembly it definitely speeds up the build. I have three trains of close-coupled, 4-wheel coaches to build. If I go with the wooden armatures, I'll do them as batches to save the glue-drying time. If I decide to just solder the shells then I'll do them serially.
