Re: Shallcross Yard
I once jokingly asked John Hayes what he used instead of solder as his models showed no signs of any and were so clean. A couple of weeks later at NLG meeting he presented me with a set of solder scrapers and an etch tag chisel(made from the ends of hacksaw blades), which were what he used to remove excess solder. He also said that, at the end of a soldering session he put the model into a dilute bath of caustic soda (IIRC) and then rinsed that off with cold water.

Re: Shallcross Yard
John had a large rainwater butt outside his workshop which he would often leave Brass and Nickel - Silver kit parts to soak in overnight after soldering.
