Re: Another Bachmann Jubilee Converted to P4

Just one further point I forgot to mention the thread on the Markits crankpin is M1.4 so you cannot reuse the Bachmann screw.
I sourced some as follows. The head needs turning down to 2mm diameter and the thread length to 1.5mm.

Re: Another Bachmann Jubilee Converted to P4

Phil the return is a modified Markits crank. IMG_20200519_121310889.jpg IMG_20200519_121354169.jpg Quite expensive at £9.50 especially when I discard the crank. IMG_20200519_121443015.jpg I file off the hexagonal section at the top of the crank pin and mark a line across the centre. IMG_20200519_122...

Another Bachmann Jubilee Converted to P4

My latest conversion is 45611 Hong Kong which is for David Clarke. This is my 4th Jubilee conversion, three for myself plus a Patriot [ which has the same chassis]. Conversion follows my now standard method using the Alan Gibson 3mm axle conversion set and Markits crankpins, which allows me to reuse...

Ash Plant Buildings

There are a lot of small buildings and structures in any shed yard not least those associated with the ash disposal plant. My latest efforts have focused on two of these - the small concrete building used by staff working the ash pit and a brick built shed which I believe housed the ash plant contro...

May I reiterate what Rod and others have said about Derek, Anita and family. Brilliant service in these difficult times. I received an order last week with an amazing turn around time. Thanks again Derek, enjoy your short break.

Re: Rigid Chassis Locos?

Steve, My method for converting Bachmann locos uses Alan Gibson wheels and Markits stainless steel crankpins which I have obtained from Roxey Mouldings reference 4MA100 and 4MA103. The latter is quite expensive and as the crank itself is rather overscale I decided to discard it and just use the cran...

Re: The Ambulance & Mutual Improvement Shed

I've been a bit busy on DIY this past week decorating the bathroom - my regime has been decorating in the morning modelling in the afternoon. Remembering I promised some photos of the Shed in situ here are a few. Keep safe, Robin IMG_20200403_153630128.jpg IMG_20200403_151346791.jpg IMG_20200403_155...

Re: The Ambulance & Mutual Improvement Shed

Jon, I do paint the tiles. I use Badger Air-Opaque air brush colours which I've had for some while. Not sure if they are still available. I use a palette of black and neutral grey with a bit of talc powder and a final wash of matt black acrylic using car windscreen was as a thinner.

Re: The Shed Foreman's Office

They are made to fit the cut openings in the outer wall. I cut and glue strips of thin plasticard to clear plasticard glazing using Limonene which allows some re-positioning before its sets dry. The interesting exercise was painting the window frames using thin washes of acrylic brown/black. The ine...

The Shed Foreman's Office

I've just been set up on this part of the forum so I will share my latest modelling project with you all. I have been making a model of Bristol Barrow Road, the former Midland Engine Shed, for some years details of which have appeared on this forum and in MRJ. Having spent some time over the past fe...

Re: Rigid Chassis Locos?

Jon , I have a Hornby Black 5, Bachmann Crab and WD, whilst more recently I have added three Bachmann Jubilees and one Patriot to my allocation for Barrow Road. Have a look at my postings and videos on this forum. I have just converted a Bachmann 4MT tank for a member of our group. They all run well...

Bristol Barrow Road had a number of visitors on shed yesterday with visiting locos from Society Members, Dave Holt, David Clarke,Mike Garwood and Morgan Gilbert all of whom have contributed locos to this fabulous collection seen on shed. The two southern locos belong to Paul Hutfield. IMG_3220 (2).J...

Re: Bristol Barrow Road

Crankpin correction completed. The obvious benefit of re-using the Bachmann motion - with the Markits crankpins - is shown with the ease of removal of the screws, realignment of the crankpin and refitting the crank.

Re: Bristol Barrow Road

Dave, Thanks for spotting this. I positioned the modified Markits crankpin slot in the same vertical orientation as the original Bachmann pin but for some reason the crank fit turned out different. I have now rotated the crankpin forward through 45deg to give the correct crank position. When are you ...
