Re: Newport MRS - NAGNAG Open Day Saturday 7th March 2015
Bit of a senior moment this morning! Staggered out of bed at the crack of dawn and started to get ready to wander down to the local station to pick up a train to Newport. Something didn't feel right and a check of my diary showed nothing planned for Saturday the 7th. Confusion reigned for a while th...

Re: Puffers - Perseverance/Westward Kits & Components
Thank you for your advice and experience gents. I think I will obtain a copy of the book. It's one of only a few in the Wild Swan modelling series which I don't have in my collection. I do have a GW Models wheel quartering jig which I presume is a useful tool for assembling AG wheelsets. I'm startin...

Re: Puffers - Perseverance/Westward Kits & Components
As I have 4 Spamcans to convert, I have an idea to do at least one with the Perseverance chassis, one with the Comet chassis and one retaining the Hornby chassis for comparison purposes. I'm not sure if the Comet one was ever upgraded to the latest standard before Geoff Brewin's sad departure. The f...

Re: Puffers - Perseverance/Westward Kits & Components
Having spotted Chris' advert, I downloaded all the gen from his website, inwardly digested then decided to order a chassis for one of my Bulleid Pacifics and tender. Chris confirmed by e-mail that all the bits I needed were available and was good enough to point out that I had listed everything I ne...

Re: 4mm Scale Products from Connoisseur Models
I spoke to Jim at the Bristol 0 Gauge show yesterday regarding the likelihood of extending this exercise to cover a batch of LSWR G6's and possibly O2's. He says that he has already had a number of enquiries for the G6 and is prepared to look at it but it is all dependent on being able to produce th...

National Rail Enquiries shows direct services to England that day so we can assume that there are no plans to close the Tunnel for engineering work and replace services with buses along the M4. Always worth checking nearer the time just in case.

Returning to the question as to why individual members don't attend, when I lived in Wiltshire I went to Leatherhead by train 3 or 4 times. The walk from the station was easy enough, the hardest part of the journey being the tube ride between Paddington and Victoria. I went to Railex by road a few t...

Re: An idiot's guide to turnout reference numbers
There is a book entitled "Track - How it works and how to model it" published by the 2mm Scale Association which has a lot of useful information applicable to all scales. I purchased my copy from the C&L shop.

A minor point but you only get 36" for your £2.90 with Peco whereas C&L track comes in metre lengths.

.... or take easy routes to reducing/eliminating derailments.
You mean like putting a speed restriction on over a dodgy bit of track like we do on the full sized railway until the p/way boys can get in there!

As one of the 4 interested parties I have revisited this thread many times to check on progress thus distorting the stats as suggested. I'm very disappointed that there wasn't enough support to make it a viable event but might be tempted to come along and meet up at the AVR. Please keep us posted. Roy

Now that this thread has expanded to include oodles of useful information and best practice, I'm torn as to whether for future reference it is more suited to the 'Track and Turnouts' thread or here under 'Starting in P4'. Is there a way of linking between the two?

Sunday was a bit quieter but a fantastic show regardless. I ended up covering the Wells Railway Fraternity unloved and unwanted book stand for much of the day raising just under £250 for Railway Children. The last participants departedaround 1900 which is no mean achievement from this venue with its...

As of 2100 Friday, most of the layouts and traders' stands are in place. The extra hall is going to make a lot of difference. Burntisland looks spectacular as a large central display and well worth the long journey south. Looking around the other layouts and stands as they all fall into place, this ...

Latest forecast for Wells is warm and wet on Saturday, cool and very wet on Sunday. Wellies and waterproofs may be the order of the day, especially if using the free car park.

There is more space available following extensive work by the Council converting the old court room into a large usable hall. The trapdoor under the old gallows is still there though!

I drove up to Railex a few times when it first moved to this location. Now I live in Somerset I wouldn't even contemplate this journey by road. The cost of fuel al...

Re: ratio plastic track bases
Presumably the problem with curves is the lack of sufficient gauge widening. What is the solution? I imagine it means assembling track from individual components such as from the Exactoscale range.
