Re: Manning Wardle wheels

Here is the printed wheel next to a Gibson wheel.

The axle hole is printed at 1.9mm so can be reamed out to make a good fit on the axle.

I have just received the first test print for checking and the photos don't really do the result justice, compared with the Gibson wheel which I will try and photo next to the printed version looks stunning and very delicate, as well as being very small.

If anyone is staying over and wants to meet for a beer on the Friday or Saturday night let me know the Hop Pole is good for both food and real ale.

Re: Scaleforum Attendance and Location

For those visitors who may be in the area for the whole weekend and maybe fancy something different on one day just ten miles down the road in Princes Risborough is Kop Hill Climb http://www.kophillclimb.org.uk/ where there is plenty of vintage cars and motor bikes. I normally go but due to being at...

Re: Manning Wardle wheels

I have no idea of the total cost, the tyres I brought from C&L a few years back, I guess Pete at C&L will tell you if you ask. The Modelu printing is subject to a set up cost and minimum charge, but 3D material cost is about 18 pence per wheel I think I need to have 50 printed to get to the ...

Re: Manning Wardle wheels

The first wheel print Alan at Modelu is adjusting the calibration of the printer so the diameter will be a good fit in the tyre.

Re: Manning Wardle wheels

No idea Jim, although the Gibson 1/8 looks too big.

2mm allows the use of some of compact High Level gearboxes and hornblocks systems.

Re: Manning Wardle wheels

I have drawn the crankpin hole but can lose it before I print it, one thing I have just noticed is that the Gibson wheel has eight spokes while the real thing plus the wheel I have drawn has ten. It would be interesting to see the Branchline wheel if anyone still has them.

Manning Wardle wheels

http://i59.tinypic.com/14bhzlc.jpg I plan to build a RT Models Manning Wardle K class the wheels that need to be used are Gibson but these with a 1/8" axle and thick tyres look like roller skates, and my thoughts turned to how to make something a little finer. I managed to get some Exactoscale...

RAILEX is this weekend

For those parking in the stadium car park there are signs saying parking can be for a maximum 2 or 3 hours. Don't worry the number plate cameras will be switched off and you can stay at Railex as long as you wish.

Re: RAILEX 2015 23rd & 24th May

Just a bump as RAILEX is just over a week away. We had a meeting with the stadium and it seems that there will be a redevelopment in 2017/18 the main hall and accommodation will stay but the bowl centre will be replaced with a new hall the size of six badminton courts with is half the size of the ha...

But one problem; not only have the pickeys knicked the chairs, they have gone off with the ballast too.

Well if you have EM gauge flanges!!!!

Re: Home made laser cut sleeper sections

Hi Terry thanks for the info. We plan to build the track wire and paint it, then lay and ballast in one go, when we have done this before the sleepers have a tendency to slide or move to a position not perpendicular to the rail. The idea was if the tabs were to one end of the sleepers not under the ...

Re: Home made laser cut sleeper sections

Our club has its own laser cutter, so artwork and cutting is no problem, If the sleeper spacing jig is only on one side two sets could be interlaced saving wastage, another thought is a laser mark to show where to position the chairs.

Home made laser cut sleeper sections

Although we plan to use Templot to plan most of track on our clubs Aylesbury layout, there will be quite a bit of straight track, it occurred to me we could laser cut our own sleeper sections, each sleeper section being tabbed into a frame that sets the sleepers to the correct spacing which would be...

Re: EM flanges for P4 wheels

There is no slot to twist them over the axle, if you don't want to remove a wheel, you need to heat the tyre up so they expand big enough to go over the wheel. Alan Gibson is working on a flangeless wheel with a slight groove to allow a rubber flange to either P4 or EM profile to locate in the groov...

EM flanges for P4 wheels

Following Martin Goodall discussion of using EM flanges on P4 track, The Scalefour Society will be adding nickel silver etched conversion discs that can added to the rear face of existing P4 wheels to increase the flange depth, currently these will only be for 3 foot and 3 foot 6 wheels, but hopeful...
