Re: CCU for LMS 6-wheel Bogie
Hi JF, I have done a lot of Bill Bedfords over the years and recently did a pair of LMS 12'6" bogies. The jury is still out for me as to whether it needs to have more sideplay in the centre axle (if it does, I will use one of my sliding axle solutions) and it needs a little care to make sure th...

It is worth noting that Glenmutchkin will be attending strictly in the category of "under construction." Anyone who expect to see an even vaguely completed layout will be suffering a disappointment but it and its fairly numerous signals will operational with mostly correct stock - although...

Re: P4 wagon Compensation(springing)
Hi Dave, Guitar wire (which is the wire that comes with the Bill Bedford springing units) does have a curve to it normally, as it is coiled in the packet. In addition, the act of clamping it in the fingers to the bearing carrier does tend to worsen this. Thus, it is necessary to bend the wire back s...

Re: Miscellany Models
The coach connectors look useful too, do you plan to do other types? such as the Pullman type, which the Southern and BR Mk1 stock used? Sorry, missed this earlier Kelly. Probably not on basis that I am unlikely to need them for my own modelling and these products are effectively a spin off of this...

Re: Miscellany Models
Guy, Regarding your questions. You are correct that the bolster does indeed slide up and down without being able to twist or indeed slide sideways. This is achieved by it having on a spring (formed of guitar wire) passing through it and supported slightly raised on the underside of the body of the b...

Re: Miscellany Models
Thanks Jol/Kelly; I'll be at Scalefour North on the Saturday and Justin will have a stack of these on his stand. I have inserted a caution about Coopercraft in the instructions but I am not joining in on what I think to be a witch-hunt. I did buy some of the axleboxes/springs from him at Railwells. ...

Miscellany Models
I am now able to offer a number of the models that I have been developing over the last few months (and years!). I am producing these under the name of Miscellany Models and you can see more details of these either there or on my blog. https://highlandmiscellany.com/ First up is a Highland Railway/L...

Re: Arrangement of levers in a signal box
Jim, i was told that the logic was that all the signals in the up direction would be at one end of the box and all the signals in the down direction at the other end. The points would be a bit more towards the middle unless they were clearly associated with either the down (so say an up layby etc). ...

That is a sad loss and way too young too.
Colin was a very agreeable man to chat to and a magician with plastic. As Rod said, the 4 SUB was a very high quality model. I hope it will live on on Minories as a sort of epitaph to Colin.

Just to say Mike I too am following this thread with interest. Most of your NER stuff is a bit big for my passions, but I do have a Bachie B1 in the *for a rainy day box" (albeit with a Comet chassis)............. Thus, could I ask that you also comment on the detailing of the body aspects, as ...

Phil,
What was the dimension between splashers before and after you went a grinding? I have a J36 on the desk and suspect I have a similar issue.

Re: New 4mm Scale Deltic from Accurascale
Jol, Accurascale definitely know the difference between the three gauges in the scale. For example, they consulted with us over their first 4mm wagon. If you look at their press announcement, it says: We are also actively investigating offering EM and P4 wheelsets as an additional option for custome...

Re: Bridge arch question
That is an ellipse. The change in radius that would be inherent in having two different arcs would be clumsy from a structural point of view. You can probably prove this by loading the photograph onto CAD and tracing an ellipse over it. If you know the overall dimension of the span and the height of...

Re: A Highland Miscellany
Thanks for the photographs Ralph. It was a neat little kit and a great deal elegant than the MSE/51L equivalent. Whilst Noel has pointed out I have built the wrong one (!), I do have another layout I am to build signals for and it definitely has LMS standard ground signals, so I will probably be bac...

Re: A Highland Miscellany
Hi Iak, Yes, it is fairly durable - I tend to make all my models thus as I am a bit of a clumsey oaf if given a chance! The chassis is solid because it has an entire floor which is a sheet of metal and the solebars fold up off this (and are laminated). The roof is also a sort of tube with a plate at...

Re: A Highland Miscellany
Although not Highland vehicles, these full brakes have a strong association with the Highland's branchlines in the post grouping years. Once the LMS took over the Highland's system in 1923, they seemed to have been horrified by the state of the coaching stock that they inherited! Portions of the H...

Re: A Highland Miscellany
That maybe an "oh bother" moment as I had thought I had found a picture of what looked just like an LMS ground signal and went from there!
I will look at the photographas again and think about it. I hope I don't have to make another of the little blighters!

Good to see you back too Mike. Looking forward to another board or more appearing in due course.
If you (or indeed others) need etches for the NER heavy signal brackets - 2, 3 or 4 doll - contact me offline. There would be a wait, but I have done the artwork for them.
