Re: Another Round...

Paul, I've just updated Templot and found that you can now export the trackwork as a .DXF file, making the job nice and easy for baseboard construction! ;) How about my Scenic Modular (P4) baseboard system, a little bit at a time . . . :D 3ft 5ins radius track curve 6mm MDF Lite Pack TJH01 30th July...

Re: Semi-Circular Brick Arches

Hi Steve, (Thanks John) I'd laser it, just need a pic or two if possible or dimensions required, or if you can provide a drawing .dxf I'll give it a go. I can't promise a quick turn around as I'm tied up with baseboard cutting (quoting people 4 to 5 months now for buildings work which I need to draw...

Re: The Stort Valley Railway - a series of SGW episodes

Hi Paul, If you design it, I will cut it ;) Just tested the biggest board I can go up to at the moment, a 4ft by 3ft 4ft by 3ft 9mm top with 6mm sides MDF TJH01 20th June 2014 Copyright Tim Horn.jpg and the scenic board has now gained it's light, again, should be on my website soon to buy :D 1200mm ...

Re: GER (Norfolk) single arch under bridge

Hi Tim, A great display of the baseboard design at Scalefour North last weekend. It's ingenious and I feel that you have a real winner there. Having seen that board in the flesh, can you remind us of what the maximum dimensions are that you can do on your new whizzie laser cutter? Following a discu...

Re: GER (Norfolk) single arch under bridge

Very impressive Tim. What colour paint did you use for the engineering blue brick? It captures that slightly mauve/purple tinge. Jol Hi Jol, Thank you, I always use Precision Engineers Blue first. The acrylic mortar was mixed up by myself and painted over the entire model in stages allowing time to...

Re: GER (Norfolk) single arch under bridge

I'll be at Wakefield this weekend doing a demo on preparing laser cutting files and general experience. Come by and say hello and have a chat :) I have a new tool in the garage and I've started to look at the core building block of most model railways . . . 8-) I'll have this and other bits on show ...

Hi tim, Thanks for the info and photos. Re: Hornby Sentinel/Rolls-Royce shunter

Yes, it was fairly painless. I've used what I had in stock, some Alan Gibson 3' pug wheels on 3mm axles. Not the correct wheel face, but it was just to see how easy it is to convert. I've re-used the original gear. Little bit of fiddling to get it to run well, but for the price it's quite a nice lit...

I will be selling all components and buildings in the near future, as my current job has come to and end and this is far more exciting and rewarding! Very nice indeed Tim. As a matter of interest, and as a former resident of Worthing, which crossing gates have you done. There were two, one over South Farm Road, just to the west of the Central station and one over Trarring Road, just to the east of West Worthing station? Both sets may of course b...

Re: GER (Norfolk) single arch under bridge

Thanks Trevor and Martin :) Trevor, the edges are the result of the taper that you can't really avoid whilst cutting though the mdf. All of the above are pre-production models, I adjust the drawings to the thickness of the mdf which will tighten up the tolerances a bit more. The problem with using s...

One bridge which caught my eye and has nearly been completed is one near Waltham on the Wolds. It goes over an old mineral line, and I loved the shape of it. Some progress pics on Mike C's little lamp hut building, sorting out the floor and interior walls. I've lasercut both sides of 1.5mm (ish) mdf to achieve the brickwork look. Phil's debut ExpoEM North has come and gone, and we had a very good time. I know that everyone enjoyed themselves, and a great team effort by everyone helping. It was a testing time for the layout too, but overall, it behaved itself very well. The only noticeable problem was an overheating Digitrax ...

Re: GER (Norfolk) single arch under bridge

One really good reason for using the laser cutter to produce the brickwork buildings and components, is that once drawn, you can scale stuff up and down. You still need to make fine adjustments though to each set of drawings, but the hard work is done. Apologies for not sticking with 4mm, but I know...
