Pencilled in the diary. The last skills day I made it along to (Kiddeminster) was excellent.

The newest releases (97201) have better windows and new grilles. The windows are to be made available to owners of older models for upgrading if they wish iirc.

Re: Harton High Staithes inspired Layout
Have had a slight redesign (nothing drastic) and changed A5 turnouts for A6.5 turnouts to ease things a bit. harton_v29-sketch.png harton_v29.png It looks a bit odd at the top right where the cassettes are, but in reality only one would be in place at one time, and 2 are higher than the other one. Re: Harton High Staithes inspired Layout
BR 1/146 welded 21T hoppers were introduced in 1952, and the 1/142 welded 13T hopper in 1949. The 1974 date relates to those hoppers rebuilt by Shildon with welded bodies to a new design https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brhuckbolt21t . Thanks for that. I think Hatcher refers to the ncb welded as b...

Re: Harton High Staithes inspired Layout
It looks very interesting. The combination of three different electrifications is attractive. How high is your staith above the river? IIRC, the RL Harton High Staithes were quite high up, certainly too high for a bank down to dock level. The latter - which I like, BTW - is more like Harton Low Sta...

Re: A shunting plank - Now Harton Collery inspired
It has been a bit of time since I last updated this topic. In that time myself and Natalie have been busy doing research on the Harton and track planning. We've come up with a potentially viable track plan following efforts in Templot and using boards and templates over them. Below is the Templot Sk...

Not sure why some of my photos above are upside down or sideways. Helpfully (or otherwise), windows explorer seems to automatically rotate the thumbnails and so it is hard to tell which are rotated wrong. The video will need reediting it seems, I didn't add the still photos correctly it seems (new s...

Re: Scaleforum 2019
Just back home from another great Scaleforum. Firstly, thanks to Terry and the team for putting so much effort into a great show. Certainly on my go to list of shows (even if I were not exhibiting there with a society stand). The selection of layouts was great and varied. The trade met my needs (whi...

I should have said that it was the H I was interested in wheels wise.
I can't recall what the hornby axles are, are they 2mm? I have 2 of them that will need converting.
What is the price per set?

Inserts for BFB wheels might be of use, with the forthcoming Model Rail Class 12 shunters, the SR/Bulleid ones had bigger BFB wheels.

Re: fine (entomological or insect) pins
Thanks to all for the interesting and useful suggestions. Wire or headless pins can indeed be used in many circumstances, it's just that a pin is often easier to use: - there's a point making it easier than plain wire to insert into a hole - the point makes it easier to push a pin through things (p...

As my other hobby is jewllery making (though costs have meant I've not really touched precious metals) I'll have a look into it if I can get chance, I wonder if cookson gold sell a unit? A quick look on aliexpress shows a wide variety of jewellery welding units, some laser, some not, from $120-3500 ...

The customer service is as good as their products. I sent an email on yesterday (Sunday) asking if they sell the HOP24s singly (they don't). I'd hoped for a reply maybe by the time I got back home tonight, but back it came pretty well immediately. Not like a model railway supplier at all, really. T...

Re: Accurascale PCA
The hoppers use a short axle (25mm) which is a nuisance although some folk don't seem bothered by the splayed axleguards when standard wheelsets are fitted. I thought this looked very odd so did a lot of hacking to fit springs and restore squareness. Not my definition of easily convertible although...

(apart from Heljan Co-Co locos were a penbits suspension unit is very much needed). Not even remotely the case. Not my experience at all. The centre axle on the Heljan 47 I have just flops around and so is impossible to run (there was no gear like the other axles) I found. Perhaps unique to the 47 ...

As Jeremy mentions, the Branchlines 12mm and 14mm wheels are perfect for most diesels/EMUs/DMUs and work well ime (apart from Heljan Co-Co locos were a penbits suspension unit is very much needed).

Re: RAILEX 2019
Went along on the Sunday. Overall generally a good show, though some layouts were very difficult to see due to being either too crowded (not much can be done about that really) or set too high to see from a chair (something can be done about that, but the show organisers can't really do a great deal...
