Re: 1980's cars
Shouldn't there be 4mm scale male figures with perms, and arranged in a "rolling over the Capri bonnet" pose?

Re: advice request for DELTIC motorisation
The Bachmann 47 chassis is not a good choice, it is very hard to find useable bogies, they seem to be prone to rocking on the middle axle, I had to get two spare bogies and even the best two of the four needed a lot of work to relieve the centre axles enough to get all the 4 outer wheels on the tra...

Re: Heljan Diesel conversions
Heljan motors seem to be a real mixed bag, personally (running on DCC) I have not had any issues with the motors in any of my heljan locos. However, I do know of many people who have reported poor performance (and in a few cases burnouts (this was before the mess with their Claytons). Certainly the...

Re: Hymek bogie wheelbases
Years ago I P4-d a Hornby Hymek which had plastic sideframes which looked right, certainly they were longer than the cast metal originals. Performance wasn't bad, and with two powered bogies, the thing would pull a house down..... I did exactly the same as you, Philip, and still have the Hymek toda...

Thanks, Russ. Yes, I have a couple of those already. Useable on the Q1, not tried on "C" yet, but throw is definitely too big for the J27, hence this request.

Inside crank axles request.
Probably a bit of an odd request, but does anyone know where I might be able to get inside crank axles made? I would ideally like to have them for the following engines: LNE J27 SR Q1 SECR "C". Cranks would be at the normal 90-degrees, offside leading, with the crank throws themselves broa...

Re: GWR outside cranks
Bought a Falcon brass GWR 4000 gallon tender for a County that I've built. Very impressed with the quality of the etches, instructions not so good, only a little bit of head scratching to make a really good looking model. As to the thickness of the brass - there were no problems in that dept. In fa...

Re: Who would like the re-issue of a Gibson S&D 7F?
....only caveat might be getting it around curves in P4, given the very restricted clearances behind the slidebars and the connecting rods. You might recall Iain Rice had battles along these lines many years ago. MRJ no.23. But I think he was more or less building it from scratch and having to impr...

Re: Who would like the re-issue of a Gibson S&D 7F?
As a postscript to this, I bought one of the first batch that Colin at AG produced last year, and this has joined my infamous archive of unbuilt kits. Naturally prices of a new-edition kit are somewhere north of £160, so you really really have to want one. The waters have also been well and truly mu...

Re: 60163 Tornado
I have one under construction, and is a hybrid of various parts (some unobtainable now), plus a Dave Bradwell chassis. It's taking ages. :( Tender: I've built the tender chassis, using the very ingenious Masokits all-sprung kit, and am trying to summon up enough courage to get going with the body (w...

....I used a 1616 Portescap motor/gearbox, but these are no longer available, new, although you might be able to obtain second hand..... Judging by the prices commanded by RG4s of any description on eBay these days, I'd say you risk spending almost as much on the motor itself as the cost of the kit...

Interesting point Russ, the castings are certainly very crisp and clean, only problem is... there's no instructions in the box! You can get instructions and spares sheets from South Eastern Finecast themselves. Give Dave Ellis a bell on 01342 824711. He has a fax machine and has even faxed sheets t...
