Re: DJ Models Austerity

A friend has one, we've stripped it down to see what its like and how to make it work on EM. The downhill lumpy running (gears clashing with rod movements) makes it useless on the layout with two significant gradients, so it will get an RT models chassis, and we'll solve the wheels either by "...

Re: DJ Models 14xx on High Level chassis

Tim/Captain K It may be that you are the first person to re-chassis two DJM 14xxs in that case! Will be educational to see how you tackle the second one. In case you were wondering about the conduits, managed to get that wire back into the conduit box in front of the right hand tank BTW - bit of a ...

Re: DJ Models 14xx on High Level chassis

I am currently running my second Hattons/DJM 14XX in, on a circle of OO track.

Initial indications are not promising.

A replacement chassis kit is standing by.

Re: DJ Models 14xx on High Level chassis

Eagerly awaiting "Hattons 14xx Part 4" on Rmweb! Thanks, David. I have now updated the blog - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/21/entry-21669-new-chassis-for-the-hattons-14xx-part-4/ One thing that is clear to me, having built the chassis rigid (I was kind of steered down ...

Re: DJ Models 14xx on High Level chassis

Managed to find Captain Kernow's experiences from your hint - if anyone else is interested it's under "new chassis for Hattons 14xx" on rmweb in three parts. He seems to have had similar issues to those I encountered, in his case dealing with the Mazak block by extensive use of a Dremel! ...

Re: Brinkley at Lydney

That all looks rather lovely, Robin, very nice job done by one and all. I've always thought that the long, straight section of running line in this view is reminiscent of a section of the Bullo Pill to Cinderford line in the Forest of Dean, leading to one of the tunnels. Did that provide the inspira...

Excellent.

Will there be any for sale by then, please?

You will be most welcome to give the new chassis a good running-in on the DRAG test track at Scaleforum.

Re: An etched chassis for the Hornby Peckett.

I also saw this at Wells and it is very impressive.

What kind of compensation or suspension is planned for it, Gordon? Presumably it is configured with the intention of the High Level gearbox driving the rear axle?

My favourite layouts, however, were the smaller ones, specifically 'The Mill' and (kind of like its larger cousin) 'Hebble Vale Goods', together with the sublime 'Croft Depot'. Oh dear, I've just realised that the first two aren't even P4. Tut tut! My view was rather different. As someone living in...

Hornsey Broadway was equally popular with the visitors keeping a large crowd entertained all day. Interesting layout, capturing the atmosphere of the area even if it was something of a collage of snippets from the local area and took some historical liberties. I'm not quite sure if you are saying t...

Sorry Paul, not the wagons book, but the two new books by Peter Barnfield - 'Aberllefenni' and 'Memories of Railway Journeys in Wales'. Both excellent.

I went to the show for 7mm modelling purposes but most of what I ended up buying was for 4mm projects (plus the latest two excellent titles from Wild Swan). Also saw loads of people I knew, so like many other shows, it turned into an excellent social occasion as well. Always a delight to catch up wi...

The train can be a problem. I would have to go in to London and change, which takes a lot longer than driving. On a Sunday, I might just get to S4um in time to turn round and come home as I couldn't get there before early afternoon! For me, the car offers freedom and flexibility - when not stuck in...

Re: Hornby Peckett saddle tank

The motion clearances are too tight so that the cylinders will have to be spaced out. They are cast as one piece in metal so spacing should be fairly straightforward. As to turning down, the type of metal that they're manufactured in, this may be a little difficult as the last set of Hornby wheels ...

Back to a circuit of 'O' gauge on the floor!
