Re: Wizard Models
What circumstances might cause traders to decide to leave shows and go only on-line? I suspect that it's a matter of costs David. I believe that traders have to pay for attending shows plus their accommodation and travel. Unless something changes I reckon more will follow. Unfortunately it's a sign...

Although a little OT, we had a serious problem using Slaters 'Plasticard' Flemish Bond sheets for the cladding on our Ouse Valley Viaduct. After starting the work we were somewhat irritated to find that the embossing wasn't straight as it sloped down on one side (two courses out over the width of th...

Jim, Apologies, have battled hard to find a way of attaching a photo to a PM and finally give up! You can't Geraint! It would seem to be impossible with PMs on here. Perhaps our Administrators could do something about it for us. It worked in an earlier incarnation of RMweb which was very similar lo...

We have one for 'Balcombe'. Rod successfully converted it using (IIRC) Brassmasters CCUs. I'll ask him for some pictures when he's available.

Very elegant method Bob :thumb ….or you could try Baron von Harrap's way, which ruffles feathers but works a treat! https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/37678-handbuilt-track/page/2/ Steve Indeed Steve! I've used the method successfully a few times. If I remember correctly Brian told ...

Indeed, awful news. My condolences to you Barry and the family. I never met Colin in person but we did contact by PMs as we both had an interest in Southern EMUs. It's sad that both Colin and Teddy Francis have passed away. Two superbly skilled craftsmen in the construction of EMUs and coaches in Pl...

Branchlines would be worth contacting.
Brian Osborne is always very helpful. 01373 822231. sales@branchlines.com
This is from an old list so prices would be somewhat out of date!

It was the 3mm thickness that was recommended with the comment that it can be bent around curves. May try it. I can get a piece the correct height with a required length of around 7'. Delivery costs more than the piece! Some suppliers sell sample pieces that you could try first or you could buy an ...

Re: Foamex
We have used the 5mm thick variety on Balcombe for the pelmetting. As Geraint said, it is strong. Our name boards lettering has been printed on it. It is an excellent product but is a tad expensive compared to the usual materials. With regards to bending we have found its flexibility sufficient for ...

Happy new Year to you too Andy. IIRC it was a mixture of sprung, compensated and solid suspensions with a mixture of rigid and sprung buffers. Here's a later film taken in August last year on a test set-up day for our 'Balcombe' and 'Ouse Valley Viaduct' layout. All these wagons again were a mixture...

Hi Neil, I've been following this with interest as you're using a very similar method and material that we are on 'Balcombe'. For the 'top coat' to seal the foam and for minor additional work we use use Sculptamold, a product that appears to be a ground up papier-mâché (it certainly smells like it!)...

Interesting. I like the look of the etchings, but I think I'll await the next part of the saga before placing an order (or trying to - T&Cs that say you'll get an e-mail with payment details are always a trifle off-putting, even if they do recognise there's more to the world than Little England...

Re: Ballasting ply sleepered track
We used Exacto 'FastTrack' and 'Klear' floor polish with various aids, some proprietary, some home made since meticulous slow ballasting was not an option for us on Balcombe with the vast amount of ballasting that was required. 006a.jpg The applicator (from Greenscene IIRC) was modified to restrict ...

Re: Construction of a Test Track
Colin, this heatwave has been a good test for the Balcombe boards. All twenty of them are stored in a garden shed and the temperature within has climbed up to 38°C on some days with no ill effects to the trackwork. All the boards are around 1200mm in length and have fixed soldered tracks at one end ...
