Re: Exactoscale Turnout Chairs
Further to my earlier query, I'm now at the point where I'm ready to build my first turnout, a left hand C8. Looking at the Exactoscale chair position diagrams here: https://exactoscale.com/track-components/chair-positions/ they show the chairs at the switch end of the turnout and at the common cros...

Re: South Pelaw Junction
Party due to the current health crisis, SPJ (two thirds of it anyway) has a new, temporary, home, my rather unfinished living room. It's a bit of a surprise to see how big even two boards are in a normal environment rather than a 160' long room. No excuses for not cracking on with it and it gives me...

Re: Accurascale couplings
Got a pack of the screw couplings this week.
They look to be pretty strong but, if coupled, the tommy bar sticks up rather than hanging down.
I’ve seen someone on RMWeb who has modified his by replacing the top pin allowing the links to be turned round allowing the tommy bar to hang down.

Re: Dorset 1937
I am definately no expert but my experience is .....I have used Howard's approach where the track is pre curved to the profile so in theory there are no stresses set up in the rail itself - meaning there is no real difference between curved and straight track. To date I have found that simply flood...

Re: Dorset 1937
Have you had any issues with track going out of alignment at all? I glued about 4 feet of track down last week using a straight edge to keep everything in line but, having looked along the track yesterday, whilst I can still push a mint gauge along it, parts of the track have definitely moved out o...

Re: A little diversion...
Another diversion, this time in to the world of Arduino to control a stepper motor for a turntable. Not too difficult although I am a software developer by profession and the language used to program the Arduino is almost identical to 'C', a language I'm very familiar with. It will likely need to be...

Re: South Pelaw Junction
Brilliant way of sidestepping the potential for grief when aligning and fixing paper templates! One of the reasons why I did it this way, I also had visions of the glue holding the paper down failing over time and the track lifting. Did you arrange for any part of the plan to be mirror-etched on th...

No progress on the layout as such as I'm waiting on some things from Tim Horn but I've not been idle and I've ventured in to two areas I've previously had no experience with, semaphore signalling and electronics. First up is an LNER tubular post signal from the MSE kit, by far the fiddliest thing I'...

Re: Non Railway Modelling
Thanks for the comments, they are much appreciated. Three different methods for the water. For the Liberty Ship, the water is tin foil, crumpled then flattened out, painted with a mix of blues - it's the method I'm least pleased with. For the calm water in the Japanese destroyer and HMS Argyll diora...

That's because she's not quite finished, the gun in the mid section still needs painting and the gun at the bow hasn't yet been fitted.

Re: Non Railway Modelling
I'm always caught between the idea of the snapshot/diaorama and the movement. In one way, the movement of the loco/train is what gives its versilimitude in a static frame (It's weird how we can accept non -movement of every part of the scene but our preferred element) But it is also amazing that we...
