Re: Knuckles's Wagon Building Log

The cattle wagon is Dapol and the other Cambrian, I haven't made a Cooper Craft kit yet, any good? New update and a new wagon. Construction was almost the same as before. I learnt a lesson from the previous truck that has led to easier and more accurate placement of the W iron etches. On the last tr...

Re: Converting the Heljan Class 35 'Hymek' to P4

Well, I'm intereested already. I've never built valve gear so maybe I'm asking too much, but if I do bother my arse to build it I might as well try to do it well. Having extra motion would be a real boon. :)

Re: Knuckles's Wagon Building Log

Thanks David for that information, It'll come in handy. :) I was thinking of giving the Loco's screw links at the front, then a dingham on the rear vehicle for run arounds. Would that work? To Wally: I might get those saws, they could help. With plastics I'm pretty confidant in my abilities, not muc...

Thanks Flymo. I did actually file a pip off but I'll do the rest. :)

I'm thinking 3 link plus Dingham.

Re: Knuckles's Wagon Building Log

Ok, whilst I still need to finish the cattle wagon and get some tie bars sorted for my turnout I thought I'd make a start on a wagon from Cambrian. To my knowledge they have a good reputation and the price (discluding wheels and couplings) made me drool. Seriously, you don't find this kind of value ...

Knuckles's Wagon Building Log

Like the thread on points I thought it'd make sence to organise things; this time my wagon experiments and progress can go in here from now on. First off a quote of the progress so far... Might be worth making a new thread for this, if so please tell me and I'll post it in a new thread and delete th...

Re: Converting the Heljan Class 35 'Hymek' to P4

Oh yes, metal spegetti. :geek: I'm hoping I can avoid that and just use RTR valve gear. Or would that be too easy? I'm interested in the Brass Masters EasiChas thingy for a Gresley A1/3 you see. *Cough*Gordon*Cough* Also something for Fury but I think there I'll have no choice but to build it myself...

Re: Converting the Heljan Class 35 'Hymek' to P4

Thanks, I don't really have a proper test track yet being early days, but when I ran it on that flexible bit of C&L it was happy, and at tight curves. I also ran it through that turnout I built using the shunting finger and it seemed happy there too, but I guess I will never know fully until it'...

Re: Converting a Dapol Class 22 to P4

Ver interesting indeed. :) What you said about the keeper plate is kind of the same experience I had with the Heljan Hymek. Please answer a question though; what was the brass wire inside the wheel for? I've read it a few times but the penny is still in the money tree. :(

I'm more of a steam fan but a good selection of Diesels, especially early ones I like too.

Converting the Heljan Class 35 'Hymek' to P4

Previous descussions on this subject that persuaded me to make this dedicated thread is here. http://www.scalefour.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2002&p=16358#p16358 - Apparently known to being one of the easiest 00 conversions to P4 known to mankind, I thought I'd give it a go. Conclusion, M...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

We seem to have strayed rather far from turnout construction. Maybe the Heljan part of the thread could be transferred to a new thread - how about "Knuckles Heljan De-construction Log"? :) DT Well, ironically all last night and today at work I've been planning to do just that! I got it so...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

That's a shame, but you know where we are should your circumstances change so you can get out on Fridays :) Sounds like it's OK mechanically. Have you maybe damaged a wire while removing the body? Check especially where the wiring runs over the metal chassis block, it would be easy to get a short c...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

Thanks for the meeting offer, I'd love to but cannot make it. :( I can never go to a meeting friday night or saturday. I have no clear idea why it has possibly died on me, I think possibly something has got jammed, but I turned the flywheels and the wheels still moved so maybe not, then I thought ma...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

Right, I've just spent 3 angry hours F****** about with it, dropping the wheels in wasn't much of a problem, however, when I applied power the wheels span and stopped, from then on was just a vibrating 'brrrrrrrr' So after lots of wheel faffing and bogey gear faffing I spent about 10 minutes trying ...

The instructions U/S provide are very good, you shouldnt hav...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

Well, I come back from work and have eight lovely posts to read, thanks guys. :) I might just crack on with the other point kit soon without the tie-bar becasue I don't know what I am going to do with the turnout currently. Naturally I'm hoping to be able to incorpirate it into a layout but that won...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

I think having our user names related to what we're working on - as in Knuckles case - is a good idea. I'm changing mine to "Looking-in-the-carpet-for-yet-another-thing-I've-dropped". I read about that obscure carpet god in another thread. Accepts all free will sacrifices of pins, axles, ...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

It's called the knuckle, Knuckles. OOOOOHHH! Right! ;) Fair enough then. Yeah, things run through much happier now. I'm still unsure what I should do to join the point blades as there are too many options and I'm not currently building a layout. Also still completely baffled on what buffers to buy ...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

As well as the above, I've about sorted the turnout problem at the 'pinch point' as I call it. (when I remmeber the correct terminoloy I'll start using it) Basically having looked extreemly closely and watching the wheels go through slowly with the shunting finger I've deduced the problem. This pict...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

Could somebody please explain to me the difference between functional and non-functional stretcher-bars? To me it's just a fixed bit of metal at 2 points eith in or out the design of the prototype. Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

Hi Craig, I brought those gauges you just mentioned a while ago. it is a bit tight so what you have described might just be it. It goes through but it doesn't like it and upon moving it back out the whole crossing slid an inch through the chairs! A tad tight then. How am I supposed to alleviate this...

Re: Knuckles's Turnout Construction Log

Ok, new update. Apart from the stretcher bars and TOU (took me months to find out what that meant) and the need to add the fshplates to the removable section again, it is pretty much complete. Both my test trucks run through it fine, one is that sprung cattle wagon in progress and the other is a Hor...
