Re: Locos for Lochinver

Excellent work Jeremy. I managed to cut away the end material to three plastic side frames yesterday and get them to plug-on ... which I thought quite neat. One to do today hopefully. I'm waiting on some bitsbfrom Eileen's so that I can fit the pivot frame at the no.1 end and then make up the bearin...

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

I received a reply from Charlie at dc kits last night, that the wheels were posted last week and they duly turned up this morning. No excuse not to tackle those bearing carriers now :?

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

PART 2 15th March As promised above, here’s the proper update on progress on the Class 26 project. The main area of focus has continued to be the front end details. I started off with the lamp brackets, the moulded offerings being a little crude. I used some Shawplan/Extreme Etchings lamp bracket e...

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

Excellent stuff Jonathan, a highly interesting read which has made me re-think one or two future diesel projects, so thanks for that! I shall be watching with interest. Sorry John, I missed this comment earlier. Glad you're finding it interesting and if nothing else, if my work presents others with...

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

Jon, I am pretty much a steam person, and freely admit that diesels make my eyes glaze over - but having said that, this is just brilliant. It is one thing to stick wheels under something RTR and have a quick P4 model, but this is what it is all about! Now I have another thing to watch on here and ...

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

... and as you indicated Ian, a nicely padded envelope just arrived in the post; opened, wimpered a little and put it away until tomorrow when I hope it'll be raining so I'll be more inclined to fire up the soldering iron :D
Thank

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

Jon, I can see what you've done there with the hacksaw ;) The PenBits pivot frame will hopefully get you out of jail: it sits on the flat lands that you have left in the casting, and would have been a tight-ish fit between the sides that you have removed, being pinned in place by 3mm studs passing ...

Re: Locos for Lochinver

A test bed (conveniently with some poor trackwork to properly put this through its paces) available in Horsham and Wakefield during April..................... Maybe one day I'll spring a deltic ;) I think it was the too-tight bogies and not your track work Mark :D I've loosened it off a bit now. Jon.

Re: Locos for Lochinver

A very useful article Jeremy... glad that you prompted me to look across. I expect to get my kit this week and I've an order from Eileen's on its way too... for those other bits and for some additional work I'll have to do to fit one of the carriers ... that's not what's called is it 8-) I do need t...

Re: Converting a Bachmann 101

Hi Neil, I agree with Keith, I've used branchlines wheels in my 105 and they're really quite easy once you've got the old wheels apart which can cause a little grunting... Jim SW showed me a drg of a small tool he used but I think in the end I just started to prise the plastic inner axle with a flat...

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

Dear all, thanks for all the comments. Work has continued and the front end detailing is probably now almost complete (unless I see something else). I will post a full update later (maybe this week) but for now here's two teaser photos of the hacked body block (to make room for the radiator housings...

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

Hi again Mike, I'm glad you found some of the photos useful. I would not be at all surprised if the loco was a bit of a mish mash; it was lovely to see it down here but I was left with the feeling that a little more TLC would be welcomed. The bodywork looked a little careworn and when I got a tour a...

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

Hi Mike, thanks for the comments and yes I'm well aware of Sean's work with his 26s and 33-27 project... some of that gave me the kick to get on with this one :thumb Sorry to hear about the problems you're having with detail aspects, yes they are a class that seems to lack much detail coverage. I re...

Re: Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

Hi James, no that's something else to tackle. I'll need to remove the block and reduce its width behind the grills... But I'm going to spend some time looking at the chassis and bogies... and tanks, anyway so there's no rush. I found Ian Penberth's website today and enjoyed looking at the sprung bog...

Heljan Class 26 Superdetailing project

Introduction I have no real genuinely strong rationale for wanting to model a Class 26 other than some idealistic memories based on a couple of trips on the highland lines from Crianlarich to Oban and Mallaig in the late 70s and that I think the class look good. There’s something purposeful about th...

Re: Bachmann class108

It can't be a difficult conversion because I managed my 105 with the Branchlines wheels. For me the tricky bit was getting the Bachmann wheels off the plastic axles... once that was sorted, with a little advice from Jim SW (thanks again Jim)... it all went together quite nicely. Runs ok on a test tr...

Re: Making a start, my P4 plank...

Glad to have found your thread over here John... there's some odd stuff going on over in RMW; glad the plank's progressing well and providing me with some inspiration to do something similar as soon as the mojo returns.
Cheers

Re: Scaleforum 2013

It felt a bit harsh to pass the turn-off for Leatherhead on my way around this morning, but the new venue is really going to bring benefits. Nice wide aisles and plenty of room... busy but never feeling crowded or pushed. Excellent. The usual finesse was on display and I felt honoured to be able to ...

Re: improving the Bachmann class 47

I spent a little time working my Bachmann 47 (originally a model of Blue 47035 with "Domino" marker lights) into a 1974 condition Gateshead generator with as many corrections and details that I could manage. I'm pleased with the result but it'll be a while before I decide to tackle another...

Standing at 7 for the 18.83 list as I added my 1 set request. So that's 22 to go. Hopefully we'll get there but I would suggest that this message needs a broader audience as there were no entries for OO or EM when I looked.

Re: Does the Crewe Area Group know?

There's been a weird recent development on Ebay in the explosion of this this. A number of people are cutting up old magazines and selling individual pages. It strikes me as (a) a very expensive way to acquire a library of interesting articles, and (b) very unrewarding for the seller, as there must...
