Worth resetting to defaults. The main thing is did you try it initially on defaults. This is always a good idea before making any changes. If it failed then I think your system is at fault. Difficult to diagnose without a working loco for comparison. I have used TCS in the past with no problems but ...

One thing I think is worth mentioning if you are starting out building a tool collection is to be sure to store files so that they cannot rub together. Hello Ben.
I am not familiar with the LSWR gate stock, but looking at photographs they seem to have BSG scissors gangways. Michael Clark of Masokits produces a range of BSG gangways.
They are a little fiddly but make an excellent gangway.
