Thanks to Ken for organising this. It was a very enjoyable evening and I hope it will become an annual highlight of the NAG year.
The choice of venue was excellent: good food and a splendid selection of real ales. We'll be back!

I've only just caught up with this thread, but I would just like to echo everyone's comments and say that the fact that NAG has been a great success is largely down to Ken's leadership and unfailing enthusiasm. The first hour of the meeting was taken up with a detailed discussion about the autumn programme of meetings for the group. This looks really interesting with practical sessions on resistance soldering, basic workshop skills, DCC, airbrushing and Templot; talks about private owner wagons in BR days ...

Slates, gutters and downpipes

On all of the buildings I have made for my layout so far I have used Exactoscale self-adhesive slates, their copper guttering and nickel silver downpipes, plus clips, etc. Unfortunately these items are no longer available. Can anyone recommend substitues?

I would have thought that the way goods yards were laid out at through stations depended upon the local geography (access to the nearest town or village) and topography (the lie of the land). The operating convenience of the railway company was surely a secondary consideration.
