Re: Assembling Exactoscale wagon wheels.

Thanks for all your help and advice fellas.
Will L, I had actually thought about using the paper method but thought it might have been frowned upon, but obviously you have used this method satisfactorily. Think I am going to try it.Simples.

Assembling Exactoscale wagon wheels.

I have some Exactoscale wheels to assemble. In the instructions INS 551, it shows 0.1mm gaps at positions 1 and 2, that is adjacent to each wheel, for the correct back to back dimension. Following the step by step instructions I can't see how to achieve these gaps, unless I have missed something. Th...

Re: Bill Bedford underframe.

Received my copy of Peter Tatlows' Pictorial Record of LNER Wagons today, looks excellent, full of photographs of all types of wagons. One more of Mr.Tatlows volumes still to arrive. Thanks for the recommendation Bryan.

Bill Bedford underframe.

Can anybody give me advice/tips/suggestions on how to proceed with the assembly of the Bill Bedford BBUW 0195 LNER 9' steel wagon underframe. Also which wagon or van body kit would be suitable for this u/f?

Re: Blade filing jig.

Thanks gentlemen. I notice that the blade jig shown being used has two clamp screws, mine arrived with only one, it does not have the one that inserts directly into the body of the jig. Do I have to resource another one myself?

Exactoscale wheels and axles.

Hi everyone, what should be used to fix Exactoscale wheels onto their axles? On the website it stipulates Loctite 601 or 603, is this still available or what is the alternative? Thanks in advance

Re: Drill for rivets.

Eilleens delivery today, a 1.1mm drill in a pin vice allows a not too tight a fit for the rivet. Not having a punch I find a few taps with a light hammer on the back of my vice sufficient.
Thank you for the benefit of your experience gentlemen.

Re: Attaching axleboxes and buffers

Thanks Andrew, this is what I am thinking at present, not that I am shying away from soldering. I spent over forty two years with BT and did a considerable amount of soldering in that time, but not much of it was delicate work and none of it involved white metal! Spring buffers would have to be trea...

Re: Attaching axleboxes and buffers

Thanks for all that helpfull info Dave and Will. I must consider getting a temperature controlled soldering iron then. Soldering in itself isn't a mystery to me, I just assumed white metal had a very low melting point.

Attaching axleboxes and buffers

Could I ask what does anyone use to attach white metal axleboxes or buffers to underframes? I feel soldering would invite disaster in the form of molten globules of white metal. I have used araldite for various DIY jobs but this seems a bit messy for delicate mouldings such as springs and axleboxes....

Thanks for that Simon. I'll look into that, it would be very convenient now that I have a wireless printer. This post came about after a panic because something dropped out software wise on my Windows based laptop but I have managed to sort that, but thanks again Simon.
