Re: Solder paint

I think that you can use one of the non-acidic fluxes, either Carrs orange or yellow. Unfortunately, I can't remember which. The answer, if I recall correctly, is in the Carrs Soldering handbook - it was a long time ago that I used to work part time for one of our tool suppliers.

Re: Any Wheel and size!

Paul, If it helps then I still have a few complete sets of wheels for the Y14/J15. You have the added advantage that they have the correct number of spokes. They were manufactured to replace the incorrect wheels in the Alan Gibson kits. You could have those wheels if you're interested. To misquote T...

You're not the only P4 layout.

Re: Ultrascale now closed to new orders

Have you all noticed that the "Products" section on Ultrascale's web-site has been enabled again? I would guess that the wheels, etc. are available but with a lead time of 9 months.

Re: Finney/Brassmasters A4

You may find it useful to download the latest Brassmasters instructions for the A4 and your chosen tender as they include pictures that identify the various castings.

This is true of all their LNER locomotives and tenders.

Re: North East Essex Area Group meeting

Hi Jol, The problem at S4N with the MERG controller may have been a genuine failure and that's why we always carry a spare! By the way did we power off and on the unit as it may have been a software failure? In the last century, whilst living in Sutton Bridge, I used to help to build layouts and we ...

Re: North East Essex Area Group meeting

I have been reading this topic with interest and offer the following thoughts. I suspect that the problem is caused by the back EMF generated by the motor (this occurs if the motor is turning and no voltage is being applied) and is more likely to be caused by controllers that use PWM to drive the mo...
