Re: Dapol Class 68 conversion

Thanks Simon,
I've seen these but they come in different metals. What did you use or recommend? Steel, brass, aluminium, etc? from Eileen's?

Dapol Class 68 conversion

The Dapol Class 68 model uses stub axles. These run in brass bearings and connect to a plastic central gear. Obviously not going to be an easy conversion. I was going to use either Ultrascale or Steam Era metal 14mm wheels. These use a 2mm axle. The Dapol axle measures out at 0.095", which I th...

Re: Point blades opening amount

My final test is with a Mint gauge - and that runs smoothly. Sometimes with points it takes quite a bit of time to get a smooth transition with the Mint gauge but when that works then I know everything is okay - it certainly shows up the flaws!

Re: Point blades opening amount

Actually, now I've just measured the crossing flangeway gauges provided by the P4 Track Company and they seem to come out at 0.655mm. Two of these together seem to measure 1.32-1-33mm. So the gap is not as wide as I thought! - Though looks about right. I have about 20 points and they are all set lik...

Re: Point blades opening amount

Can I ask a further question regarding, in model form, the blade opening amount immediately after a curve or on a curve. I use 2 x flangeway crossing gauge distances, ie about 1.4-1.5mm for S4 standards. The curve is gauge widened and so is the start of the turnout using a roller gauge at 0.1mm extr...

Re: Dapol Freightliner HIA Wagons - how to convert to P4

Thanks to you both but here is the problem. I have used Colin Craig Gloucester sprung bogies on other wagons. indeed they are great. Unfortunately he has not increased his range. The Gloucester's are 2000mm centres - as are most on the market. I use Cambrian for their plastic sideframes. Their rigid...

Dapol Freightliner HIA Wagons - how to convert to P4

These new wagons are being well received. Indeed they are very nice with a heavy chassis and will run well. But no-one mentions the Y25 bogies. They look nice but are impossible to convert as they stand. My other Dapol wagons have been very easy - just swap the wheels and they work perfectly in P4. ...

Re: 7 mm wheels for Realtracks FLA container flats

Thanks to Tim & Colin. So, I need an EF (effective flange) of 0.4mm and a FD? (flange depth of 0.4mm) and BB (back to back) of 17.7mm. So, a PD N gauge 7mm wheel should be pretty near (with a 1.5mm axle is replaced by a longer 1.5mm axle and a sheath of brass tube 2mm O/D and 1.5mm I/D. I can do...

Re: 7 mm wheels for Realtracks FLA container flats

Thanks Colin,. I thought I may be the only one! But we shouldn't need to go to all these lenghs. Surely, the basics of a finescale society is to help modellers with track and wheels. Also, this is for a wagon of modern times. For attracting new members - and by this I mean younger members - to the s...

Re: 7 mm wheels for Realtracks FLA container flats

Yes, I was thinking about N gauge wheels.
Or maybe someone could produce them - there must be a market in finescale 4mm modelling.

7 mm wheels for Realtracks FLA container flats

How do I convert the Realtracks FLA 'Lowliner' Bogie Container Wagons to P4 (or even S4). The problem is the prototypes have 540mm wheels, on LTF13 bogies, wheelbase 1,800mm. So in P4 this requires 7.08mm disc wheels. Where can I obtain 7 mm disc wheels that will run on P4 - there's the Markit wheel...

Re: Masokits??? Still active???

Can I ask again if Masokits is still active? It's a year since the last message on this thread and I want to order some tiebars. As functioning tiebars, they take a lot of tough use using Tortoise motors and have never let me down.
