Re: GWR inside frame colour
I used a red oxide primer for the inside of the frames for my 58xx (an old Perseverence etched body on a High Level chassis). It comes out darker than the Castle and Dean Goods in this thread but a loco in service would have picked up dirt and oil fairly quickly in this area I don't think the exampl...

Re: Tettenhall - A GWR Secondary Line in the West Midlands
Hi Chris Thanks for this - it has appeared in one or two other publcations. It has some very nice detail of the station just before the line opened. I am already in touch with the Tettenhall Transport Museum folks Not much progress on the layout lately but the planning application for a double garag...

Re: Tettenhall - A GWR Secondary Line in the West Midlands
Great to see this Andrew. I remember this line as a foot/cycle path when I grew up in Wolves. Our school Cross-country run took us onto the line just west of the girder bridge over the canal and then along towards Wombourne and back!! Be very interested to see how you progress and do I see you're a...

Re: Tettenhall - A GWR Secondary Line in the West Midlands
Here are some photos of the layout under construction with track laying progressing - I used P4 track company bases on a 1/8th cork underlay. Once the alignement was correct, pins were used to confirm location followed by fixing with evostick flooring adhesive, ballasting has still to be tackled.

Tettenhall - A GWR Secondary Line in the West Midlands
I thought I would share some information about my layout by way of an occasional post on the S4 Forum. The layout has been inspired by the railway at the botton of my garden, where I grew up, at Tettenhall (formally in Staffordshire and now a suburb on the western side of Wolverhampton. The hisotry ...

Re: My First Layout - Whitehall Halt
A Hymek or Warship would have been too heavy for the Hemyock line on the real railway. Afetr the Class 22's were withdrawn circa 1971, they were replaced by the ubiquitous Class 25 on light duties in the West Country, inl;cuding the Hemyock Branch. So that might be an easier conversion possibility f...

Re: wagon building progress.
Craig, the AA15 Toad looks very good - hard to beleive this is an RTR model with only a little bit of improvement. Can you tell us what you have done to the suspensinon? is it compesated or sprung? I have a need for a few more Toads, and this model looks like the way to go - it will give a quicker r...

Steve, As well as Jim Russell's GWR Absorbed Engines, you will find all the required information for building one of these engines in Mike Lloyd's book on the Tanat Valley Light Railway (Wild Swan 1900). There are plenty of photographs of 1192, 1196 and 1197 in various forms as well as a meticulousl...

Re: Martin Finney 3232 class and Malcolm Mitchell 517
Hi Craig Here are 2 views of my 517 - No 544 as running in the late 1920s. The body work finished and in grey primer, with chassis awaiting a rebuild to split frame / split axle and replacement of the originally installed Portescp 1219 motor with a Mashima and High Level gearbox. This was my first h...

Re: Martin Finney 3232 class and Malcolm Mitchell 517
Hi Craig Your 3232 and 517 are looking good so far, you just need to keep at it! I think you speak for many of us about getting diverted to other things. Reaching milestone birthdays (I am a similar age to you) makes you take stock and realise there is only limited time for new projects and hence ma...

Re: GWR lock-ups
Like all "standard" designs there are some variations on the real thing. Tim notes that the Coopercraft kit can save you some work, and I thought this would be the case for my own layout based on Tettenhall on the Oxley - Kingswinford Jct line in Staffordshire. However the hut at Tettenhal...

Re: GWR Railmotor
I'm joining this thread a bit late (I only just discovered it) but thought interested parties may like to know I have been building a 70' Railmotor to Dia R for my P4 model of Tettenhall station on the Oxley - Kingswinford branch (Wombourn line). Railmotors worked on the line during the brief period...
