Newham Goods started life as the terminus in TRURO for the west Cornwall railway. I.K. Brunel was engaged as the chief engineer for the building of the line from Penzance to Truro which incorporated the Hayle to Penzance railway and its constituents.
It was the only railway in Cornwall at the time and was constructed to the standard gauge but converted to dual gauge when the G.W.R. reached Cornwall.
