The object of this page is to provide details of the Scalefour Society's own Exhibitions, being

SCALEFOUR SOUTH WEST

Information will be incorporated as it is made available by the Exhibition Organisers, and there may well be occasions when there is little to report.

SCALEFORUM 2008

Dates 27th and 28th September 2008
at The Leisure Centre, Guildford Road, Leatherhead, Surrey.
Saturday 10.30hrs - 18.00hrs. Sunday 10.00hrs - 16.30hrs
Admission: Scalefour Society Members:£3.50 ; Others: £6.50 [valid both days] partners & accompanied children free. Unaccompanied children not admitted.

Planning for Scaleforum 2008 is almost complete, and we hope to repeat the successes of recent years. Our aim, as always, is to provide an event with an atmosphere of enjoyment, education and inspiration, and to maximise enjoyment you should plan to attend both days if you possibly can. There is a full range of catering available, including bar, and advice over local accommodation can be provided.

Scaleforum is much more than a typical model railway exhibition. There are:

* demonstrations covering topics from modelling on a budget to building complex locomotives.
* an unsurpassed collection of finescale manufacturers and traders.
* top quality lectures which routinely attract an audience of over 50, and occasionally over 100!
* inspirational layouts of all types and sizes.
* a “Society Area” where advice can be sought on any aspect of the hobby, whether you are a member or not and irrespective     &nbspof whether you are an experienced modeller or just starting out.
* the renowned “Bring and Buy” stand.

This year sees the culmination of the Society’s Diesel and Electric Layout Challenge, where members have responded to the Challenge to build layouts featuring modern motive power, within laid-down criteria on transportability. All those layouts which have successfully completed the Challenge are expected to be on display, in addition to our normal complement of layouts for the event.

LAYOUTS:

Clinkerford by John Darch

Fictitious GWR branch line based in the Forest of Dean with buildings modelled on prototype structures.

Flintcombe by The East Dorset Gang of Four.

A country ststion based pf Somerset and Dorset practice and set in the 1930s.

Fulham Imperial Road by Craven Area Group.

Fictitious Station and goods yard on the West London Extension Railway set in the post-grouping period.

Grafton by Trevor Edwards.

The rarely modelled Midland and Souuth Western Junction Railway, originally built by Steve Lee and now cared for by Trevor Edwards..

Knutsford East Junction by Crewe Area Group.

A "might have been" junction based on the former Cheshire Lines Committee practice and set in late 1947.

Nettlebridge Valley Railway by Neil Kinison

A fictitious minor line which runs along the southern edge of the Somerset coalfield, set in 1910.

Seaton by Simon Harris

A model of Seaton in Devon built as accurately as possible to represent the prototype. and set in the glorious days of the LSWR depicting the period between 1900 and 1920.

Tythering by Ann Emery.

Originally started by the late Lyndon Emery and completed by his widow, Ann, assisted by Brian Wilkinson . The line is set in hypothetical rural Somerset/Devon.

Woolworth Road by Sarum Finescale Group.

Woolworth Road is set in the 1955 to 1962 period and represents the Southern Region (ex-SE&CR) side of a cross London line, and featuring a Goods Depot.

Travel

Getting to Leatherhead is no problem – good access from the motorway network and efficient train services direct to Leatherhead make it simple to get there. If travelling by road, free parking is available within the site.

Access for Disabled Visitors

Wheelchair-bound visitors are very welcome at Scaleforum. The halls are laid out with wide aisles between exhibits and no barriers to layouts. Those with mobility impairment may enter directly into the main, lower hall without first having to pass through the Reception Area on the first floor – follow the signs. There is an internal lift within the Leisure Centre to then gain access to the upper halls; please seek guidance from any steward who will be pleased to give directions and assistance.

The Scaleforum Weekender

A thirty-six page Guide, containing full details of Scaleforum together with modelling articles of interest, will be mailed to all members as usual, and will be available at the door to non-members. If, however, you want to savour the delights of the publication beforehand, as well as plan your shopping, copies are available by post from Mike Peascod, 104 Durley Avenue, Pinner, Middlesex HA5 1JH. Please send an A4-sized self-addressed envelope and a cheque for £1.40 made out to “The Scalefour Society”. A copy will be posted to you as soon as available – intended publication date is 1st September.
