Diesel and Electric Layout Challenge

Following the successful 18.83 Layout Challenge of 2005, the Scalefour Society, in association with Diesel and Electric Modellers United (DEMU), is pleased to announce a similar challenge.

The Challenge invites modellers to design and build to P4 standards an exhibition layout where at least three quarters of the motive power modelled represents diesel and/or electric prototypes.  This can include diesel and/or electric multiple units as well as locomotives.

Entry to the event is open to all, and membership of either the Scalefour Society or DEMU is not a prerequisite to enter the event.  Entries may be from individuals, informal groups, clubs, or area groups of the Scalefour Society or DEMU.

The completed layout and all ancillary items, including rolling stock, has to be portable and capable of being transported to exhibitions by a private car or similar vehicle and be erected and operated by a maximum of two people.  Apart from this there is no size constraint.  Entrants have until April 30th 2007 to formally register their interest.  All registered designs will be displayed at Scaleforum on 29th and 30th September 2007.  Layouts that are already in the course of construction, and which meet the design criteria, may be entered.  The layout and rolling stock will have to be substantially complete by May 31st 2008 to be accepted for the final event.

At this stage it is anticipated that the layouts entered will be exhibited as part of Scaleforum in September 2008.  In the event of the number of entries being greater than the space available, alternative arrangements may be made such as exhibition at other Society events or a special exhibition.

Anyone interested in entering this Challenge is invited to contact the organiser who will supply full details and an entry form.
