The only income received by the Society (apart from a small margin of sales from Stores) is that of subscriptions from members. Thus it is in the interest of the members that subscriptions are paid promptly on the 1st of March each year. Only in this way are you able to receive some of the benefits of membership, such as Society publications and exhibitions such as Scaleforum. The use of the Direct Debit system saves your having to remember when renewal becomes due and, should you forget, saves reminders being sent. Printing and posting reminders are wasteful use of Society funds. Furthermore, the direct debit system gives significant saving in time and cost compared with processing other methods of payment, such as cheques. Since you will need to pay your first subscription, together with the joining fee, by conventional means, the direct debit would take effect from your first renewal on the 1st of March of the year following that in which you joined. You are accordingly urged to apply for a Direct Debit Mandate - to do so please tick the relevant box in the final section of this form and a Direct Debit form will be sent to you. Alternatively you can print out the .pdf version of the form and enclose it with your membership application, saving extra effort for both of us. Please note that this facility is only available to members with bank accounts in the UK. Please be aware that there also a benefit to members since subscriptions paid in this manner currently qualify for a discount of £1.00 on the renewal subscription.
PLEASE COMPLETE DETAILS ON THIS FORM BY KEYING IN THE ANSWERS USING YOUR KEYBOARD (Click your 'Mouse' in the TITLE Box and tab through to the other boxes). This is preferred to avoid any mis-understandings in interpreting hand-written input. Then print the form, sign it and send it, with your initial subscription, to the Membership Secretary, whose address appears below.
You can, however, if you wish, print the
form first and then complete the details by hand, in this case please download and print
out this version of the form. For this you need 'Acrobat reader'.
We will also appreciate it if you fill out the atached questionnaire as it will help us help you.
(If you don't already have the Acrobat reader its a free download from Adobe).
Before signing the form you may wish to read the Constitution and Rules.
If you have a UK bank account please print out the Direct Debit form and send it in together with your membership application. NB We only do a direct debit run once a year at renewal time so we can't take the initial fee by this means.
We are sorry that the entire operation cannot yet be completed electronically, but there are difficulties over secure transmission of money, and we also prefer to have your actual signature on our records. If you have any queries please e-mail the membership secretary.
