THE SCALEFOUR SOCIETY 18.83 LAYOUT CHALLENGE

PANDEMONIUM by Jeffrey Greenwood and Bob Keech

The layout will be loosely based on the Holmfirth branch of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, circa 1925.

As the sun rises the doors of the Goods Shed open and the first arrivals of the day, shunting engine and early morning workman's passenger train, wake the station up to a busy day. Arrivals of freight and passenger trains are interposed with the shunting in the goods yard and the dispatching of Blackpool Specials (well its always summer here).

Deliveries to the coal drops is made (and yes the coal really drops), The shunting engine pops off to Brockholes for water. Jeffrey tries to slip in his predilection - a black five, and things are pretty hectic.

The stock and engines will reflect the merger to the LMS, but will be principally of L&Y origin together with Private Owner wagons.

As the sun sets the Blackpool specials return with their day trippers, the shunter finishes the freight operations for tomorrows movements, the coal merchants clear their deliveries (where does the coal go) and the Goods Shed doors close marking the end of the session. Real time operation, providing there are not too many interruptions, cups of tea or mishaps should be about 30 minutes then its off we go again.

Operating techniques will be within the range of two oldies, no DCC or computers, unless Bob can slip something by Jeffrey - well I'm sure that was a black five on that special.
