THE SCALEFOUR SOCIETY 18.83 LAYOUT CHALLENGE

Cwmbran Junction by Bill Bedford and Tony Thorn

Loosely based on Cwmbran Junction, this layout depicts the coal traffic in a Welsh mining valley in the BR(WR) era. It consists of a double track loop with storage sidings. Trains run from one siding, around the loop and into a siding on the opposite side of the layout The loco and brake van are then changed and the train runs across the back of the layout into its original siding.

Unlike most circular layouts the visible parts of the track are at the back, with the front part of the loop hidden from view. This gives a 'distant prospect' of the railway, allowing the viewer to focus on the whole train rather than individual vehicles.

We have added an extra criteria to that of the competition. We feel that this layout should be either expandable or at the very least be seen as a prototype for a more ambitious project.
