THE SCALEFOUR SOCIETY 18.83 LAYOUT CHALLENGE |
SPITALGATE, BR (GE
Section)
by John Chambers, Simon de Souza, Iain Rice and Tim Shackleton (provisional!)
Spitalgate sets out to represent an East London goods depot as it might have looked during the 1950s. The design includes elements drawn from such prototype locations as Spitalfields, Bishopsgate, Goodman's Yard and London Dock -- all set in the unique landscape of the East end.
The yards incorporate multiple levels connected by wagon hoists and feature capstan shunting. The street scenes use authentic period detail and road vehicles, as well as a range of typical structures including an L.C.C. fire station and appliances.
Layout operation is by DCC, with manual point operation and a mix of automatic and hand-operated couplings.
