MARTLET ROAD by Nigel Thomson
Martlet Road represents an intermediate station
on an
imaginary cross-country branch somewhere in Somerset. It serves the
sleepy
village of Martlet, which is, inevitably, a mile or two distant from
the
railway. The line lies on the old LSWR, but the period modelled
represents the
latter days of steam on BR, when perhaps both ex-SR and GWR locomotives
could be
seen working here. Limited goods facilities are provided, including a
cattle
dock and goods shed.
A martlet is the heraldic bird depicted on the arms of the County of
West
Sussex, where I now live.
