THE SCALEFOUR SOCIETY 18.83 LAYOUT CHALLENGE |
Felling Road by David Smith
The inspiration for Felling Road has been unashamedly
drawn from Chris Pendlenton's North Shields and MRJ's Inkerman Street. Set in
late 1960s I early 1970s Gateshead, I wanted a layout upon which I
could run the stock that I have been building in odd moments over the last 10
years or so. J27s, Q6s and V1s will be giving way to Sulzer type 2s and Metro
Cammell DMUs. The high-level station will allow me to run some short passenger
trains, whilst the low-level goods yard means that I can indulge in a spot of
shunting.
I thought that the 18.83 in 18.83 Challenge would be the ideal spur to encourage
me to actually complete my first layout rather than just keep planning and
dreaming. As such, there are to be many compromises, not least the unimaginative
concept and track plan. To date the baseboards for the scenic section have been
constructed, Templot templates have been drawn and some track is down on one of
the boards.
