long sheets of balsa

Postby Hardwicke » Fri Jan 19, 2024 11:25 am

Where (in the UK) can I buy long sheets of balsa? 4 or 5 feet long preferably.
Ordsall Road (BR(E)), Forge Mill Sidings (BR(M)), Kirkcliffe Coking Plant (BR(E)), Swanage (BR (S)) and Heaby (LMS/MR). Acquired Thorneywood (GNR). Still trying to "Keep the Balance".

It is readily available from model shops that cater for aircraft modellers but I think that you will find that the standard maximum length is 36".

Or slec

I’ve never seen longer than 48” mind you, but no reason you couldn’t v the end and splice them.

Thanks.
I've already looked at Slec and The Balsa Cabin. 5' is a maximum but 4' might do. I have to check baseboard joints to avoid points...

Having recycled some wood that was being thrown away I've realized the solution was obvious really. Laminate thinner sections of different lengths. Here's the wood I recycled showing the joins.
