James

They are available now but there is a slight delay in supply at the moment. Hopefully Jeremy Suter will have them back in stock in the Stores soon.

When will 1in7 diamonds and single slips be available? Without these it’s going to be difficult to build much other than a blt.

I too am interested in purchasing several of these but they seem to be permanently OOS on the stores page. Any news regarding future availability would be welcome.

The prototype of the new A6 kit was displayed on the Society stand this weekend at the London Festival of Railway Modelling. The kit has now been signed off for production.

We hope that they will be in stock with the Society stores by the end of the month.

A photo of both completed kits. A6 on the left, B7 on the right.

Should be in the stores in the next week or so.

Now my observations based on that this kit may be some ones first attempt at building a point / turnout:
a) The first two sleepers should be fitted with normal chairs not slide chairs.
b) All the lengths of of the individual pieces of rail should have their lengths included in the instructions.
c) A couple of plastic fishplates would be useful to isolate the crossing assembly from the closure and switch rails.
d) Tools and Materials list super glue, but I did not see it mentioned in the instructions.
e) Tie bar is in fact a stretcher bar.
f) The splice rails are too short. The running line centre to siding centre should be a minimum of 15ft. The splice rails should be 6mm longer.
g) The length of planing on the switch blades for a B switch should be 7ft 4".

Did you notice that the switch blades are only planed on one side?

I've contacted Wayne and that is what he thinks is correct. But I can't see how I'll get anything near smooth running.

5 minutes or less with a file to taper off the head on the other side. :)
Apart from the P4 track co. I've never seen a ready made blade done properly.

And whilst on the job, perhaps smooth up the side that is tapered as well! C- for filing! :)

I bought some nice ones from Stephen Freeman (aka BorgRail) which would have been perfect as straightcut blades, to use with joggled stockrails. Granted, they cost about half a BF turnout kit.

It seems to me that if the purpose of these kits is to make it easier to move into P4, then having switch blades that cannot sensibly be used as supplied could be a potential issue. The product doesn’t do what it “says on the tin”.

The question is whether they actually do perform as intended without any problem. I've a friend, embarking on P4, who has bought some for his layout project. I'll answer the question in due time.

Those that I’ve built work fine.

As I said at the outset of this thread, we know they aren’t the full hi-fi finescale turnout kit but they are intended to be a cost effective way to get started in P4.

Hopefully the two sizes will help some to get layout projects started.

Thank you for that simple confirmation, Jeremy - on the 4th page of this thread no one has actually said that till now!
