Layout plan

Wirral Finescale Railway Modellers Option 1

The latest offerings from WFRM come in the modular format for the DEMU/S4 challenge & will be the first parts of a larger project.   The layouts are designed in a modular format that can be operated together or separately

This time we will be moving slightly back in time (20 years) in the case of Widnes Vine Yard or moving forward 20 years in the case of Charlotte Rd to 1987, That year the gaudy toothpaste livery of Network Southeast was introduced. The layout location is fictitious, but the track plan is based on a prototype which gives a mixture of third rail & non-electrified lines & forms a junction where they both meet at the station throat. The station approaches & associated S&T/ Speedlink sidings are the
interesting areas to be modelled with the station being off scene at the staging roads. (fiddleyard)
What we have in mind is that the location is situated somewhere over the southwest side of London & is on the connection where the Southern meets the Midland, Western & Eastern Region, so the traffic that effectively crosses London from points to the Southern. Freight traffic should include Freightliners hauled by clapped out RFD Class 47s, TPOs & Parcels traffic hauled by variety of Classes, such as EDs, Cromptons & even the odd 31 as well the ubiquitous Spoon!   Aggregates traffic hauled in the main by Class 56s plus the then new Foster Yeoman Class 59s. The odd MGR coal train bound for Brookgate (Class 56 hauled) &/or Northfleet Cement
works with a Class 58 up front. Passenger stock will consist mainly of 3rd EMU stock with DMUs being of the type that rattled around the North London lines at that time. Also present will be Cross Country Intercity services with a few NSE hauled Class 50 services.
The S&T sidings should be full of project Mercury stock, which kicked off during this time frame. The aim of the consists is to depict the actual prototypes that ran on & off region in the period 1987 – 1994.

The layout itself should represent a run down area of South West London with a bit of old industry & redundant canal system with the usual amount of trash dumped in it.  The name is yet to be decided.

The electrical side of the layout will be controlled by DCC via the Laptop as the control panel.
