Rayners Lane by Joel Middleton
When I saw the DEMU P4 challenge advertised I thought it would be a nice excuse to try finescale modelling. I had wanted to make a model of a tube station for quite a while. In the end I decided to base the layout on Rayners Lane station in north-west London. I chose it as it has more than just the two through line most tube stations have and because I can run both tube and surface stock on it. The station building is a large art deco building in the middle of a row of shops facing on to the road. You enter the building and walk across to the left hand side of the booking hall then pass the through ticket machines and descend the stairs on to the platform. Behind you a train emerges from under the road and the station building it pauses at the station before moving off it passes the reversing siding between the two running lines . It will then leave the area my layout covers under a road bridge and on towards Eastcote. Sandwiched between the eastbound platform and the car park is an unused storage siding Rayners Lane is used by the Piccadilly and the Metropolitan lines, which means I am able to run both deep tube and surface stock from the Metropolitan line. I also hope to have an engineers’ train. The down side of this prototype is that I need to scratch build all the stock. |
