North London Group (NLG)

The North London Group is a group of railway modellers that has an interest in all things to do with the accurate representation of all railways in miniature.

The group meets regularly in Watford for a variety of activities which include lectures, film shows, demonstrations, track nights and chat nights. At these meetings various aspects of the hobby, local or global, are discussed as well as progress of the latest projects. We offer a welcome to anybody interested in model railway activities. You do not have to be a finescale modeller to qualify for membership although we may try to convert you! If you are interested in joining us either come along to a meeting or get in touch with the secretary - see below.

The meetings are held on the last Monday of the month in St. Andrews Church Hall, Church Road, Watford WD17 4PY (five minutes walk from Watford Junction station). The starting time is 8.00pm. Exceptions to the rule are when Bank Holidays fall on the last Monday of the month - in these cases the meeting is brought forward one week.

A Brief History

Bodmin signal box The group has been in existence since 1976 and in that time has had three homes and created two well known layouts to finescale standards. The first, Heckmondwike, after a tour on the exhibition circuit was on display in the National Railway Museum at York. It has now come home and parts of it have been preserved for posterity. The second, Bodmin G.W.R, is still being exhibited.

The membership owns several well known layouts which are frequently aired at exhibitions and group track nights.
